NHL ATS & Puck Line Explained
The NHL puck line is fixed at -1.5 for favorites and +1.5 for underdogs. Because hockey is a low-scoring sport where overtime and shootouts decide many games, the puck line is harder to cover than spreads in basketball or football. A team's ATS record reveals whether they're winning decisively or squeaking by — and whether underdogs are keeping games close enough to cover +1.5.
How to Bet NHL Using ATS Trends
- Goaltending drives everything: A team with a strong ATS record almost always has a goalie playing above their career average. Check our matchup pages for per-goalie SV% and GAA.
- Road back-to-backs: Teams on the second night of a back-to-back cover at roughly 43%. This is the most reliable fade spot in hockey.
- Home ice is real but small: NHL home teams win about 55% of games. ATS splits show which teams actually capitalize on home ice vs those that don't.
- Over/Under trends: Track which teams consistently go over or under the total. Low-event goalies like Vasilevskiy drive unders; high-octane offenses like Colorado drive overs.
