Understanding MLB ATS & Run Line Records
In baseball, ATS refers to the run line — typically set at -1.5 for the favorite and +1.5 for the underdog. A team covering the run line means the favorite won by 2+ runs or the underdog lost by 1 run or won outright. Because roughly 30% of MLB games are decided by exactly 1 run, the run line adds significant variance compared to moneyline betting. That is why our AI model focuses on moneyline picks for MLB — but ATS trends still reveal which teams are dominating games vs which are squeezing out close wins.
Key MLB Betting Trends to Watch
- Home/Road ATS splits: MLB has the largest home-field advantage variance of any sport. Some teams are 10+ games better at home vs on the road.
- Over/Under trends: Early-season unders dominate (cold weather, rusty bats). By June, overs take over as lineups heat up.
- Last 10 ATS: Baseball teams streak. A team covering 8 of 10 often has a pitching staff on a hot run.
- Favorite vs underdog ATS: Teams that cover as underdogs are the sharpest betting targets — plus money with a covering history.
